The most important priority is that you feel valued, respected, and safe in our sessions, regardless of your age. I describe my practice as client-centered, non-judgmental, and individualized to your needs. I am able to offer EMDR, Strengths-based, Narrative, Cognitive Behavioral, Internal Family Systems, Trauma Informed, and various other approaches when appropriate. I work with those who are experiencing grief and loss, trauma recovery, anger, identity struggles, social challenges, depression, anxiety, divorce/ separation, or discrimination.
For some children (and occasionally teens or adults), I utilize play (art, books, toys, games) to allow and promote communication at the child's developmental level. Play therapy is to children what talk therapy is to adults. Play is a child's natural language to express and convey their feelings. Play therapy can assist a child in processing trauma or grief, improves a child's self-concept, and reduces anxiety. Play can also facilitate behavioral changes, promote problem solving, and increase social skills and self-control.
A family is a system, in which one person has an impact on the others. If one member of the family is struggling or hurting, it is often useful to involve the whole family in the healing journey. Family therapy can be beneficial for families who are going through life adjustments, such as divorce, separation, death, birth, adoption, blending families, illness, addictions, deployment, or other family changes.
If needed, I can sometimes provide tele-therapy virtually from your home or workplace. If you reside in Indiana, I can offer confidential (HIPAA compliant) video conferencing using your phone, tablet, or laptop. This might be a one-time session due to illness, bad weather, or another emergency, or it might be an ongoing decision due to distance, lack of transportation, or other personal factors.
